Têtes byzantines (Byzantine Heads) is comprised of two metal relief plaques, Brunette at left and Blonde at right. These profiles were likely produced in the very early 1900s and are based on Mucha's correspondingly titled colour lithographs of 1897. See: Mucha Foundation, Byzantine Heads (pair), and Christie's 20th Century Decorative Arts and Design, Lot 50, Byzantine Head: Blonde, circa 1897, March 8, 2006). These relief plaques are quite rare and only occasionally appear at auction, almost never as a complete pair.
