Lajos Tscheligi was born in 1913 in Budapest, Hungary. His formal training in art was completed at the Academy of Art in Budapest. Already there he excelled as a student. Lajos Tscheligi began his career working in the traditional religious style, following with a series of portraits, street scenes, and country scenery. His career was halted by World War II and after the Hungarian uprising he moved to Switzerland, where he achieved remarkable success. While there he won an honor at the XIV Grand Prix International in Paris, the Chevalier of the Legion of Honor, Medaille d’Or du “Devouement Social” and Medaille d’Or du “Baron Taylor”. He participated in more than 40 solo exhibitions all over the world. His work is included in hundreds of private collections in Europe, North and South America and Asia. On the 13th of June 2003 Lajos Tscheligi died aged ninety years old. In the same year, posthumously, he has received the Commemorative plate “Pro Cultura Hungarica” for the significant contribution to the national cultural heritage given by The Ministry of National Cultural Heritage of the Republic of Hungary.
